In 2016, Matt Hughes picked up his art supplies and created The Ethereal Visions Tarot—not initially for the market, but for Hope, his partner and fellow dreamer. Hope searched for a tarot deck that felt like home and found none. So Matt built one, a deck of light and line, inspired by flowing beauty and imbued with mythic reverence.

That love project became a crowdfunding campaign, that campaign led to working with US Game Systems, and then became a calling that produced more stories and art.

In 2017, Ethereal Visions Publishing was born.

Since then, Ethereal Visions Publishing has grown into a small, independent studio producing tarot decks, oracle decks, journals, and beautifully illustrated books. Matt and Hope create products that blend traditional illustration with storytelling, mythology, magick, and esoteric symbolism.

The premise of Ethereal Visions Publishing is to bridge between tradition and innovation, seen and unseen, image and story. Those ideas birth the tangible and become a gateway for experiences—designed to awaken memory, stir emotion, and connect you with something more profound.

The creations produced are to be held, cherished, and woven into the rituals of daily life.

Matt and Hope believe mythology, astrology, and art are not abstract but living languages. The creative offerings encourage the user to ask better questions, to understand themselves and each other, and to remember what the world once was and could be again.

Matt is a classically trained artist and illustrator. He ingeniously blends the romantic aesthetic beauty of Art Nouveau with the dark concepts of Gothic art. His style is Gothic Art Nouveau, a new art movement that is redefining the relationship between viewer and subject, entwining both into an intimate rendezvous, sharing dark and ethereal realms immersed in religion and mythology, death and spirituality, human nature and inherent evil, ultimately leaving the viewer with a profundity of self-reflection and introspection.

Hope is a writer and mythweaver, drawing from her background in witchcraft, mythology, folklore, astrology, and nature. She crafts the stories and characters behind each deck, infusing them with layers of meaning, magic, and intention that create worlds that pulse with symbolism and spirit.

They share their home and studio with four beloved feline companions: Mina, Chester, Stormy, and Loki. They are little muses, familiars, and constant reminders that magic often comes on four paws.
